Creating a safe and comfortable environment 

Dalhousie Student Health & Wellness strives to create an inclusive, respectful and confidential environment for everyone using our services, including the Rainbow community. Please let us know your updated name and pronouns when you visit so we can include it on your patient profile.

2SLGBTQ+ services offered by the Student Health & Wellness Centre

Healthcare professionals at the Student Health & Wellness Centre in Halifax are trained to support 2SLGBTQ+ health needs and provide inclusive primary and mental health care.

Sexual Health Services

  • Confidential and inclusive STI/STBBI testing and treatment services
  • HIV prevetion and treatment, including information and prescriptions for PrEP and PEP
  • Availability of condoms, dental dams, and other safe sex supplies 

Gender Affirming Care Services

  • Accessing and starting hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
  • Providing letters of readiness for gender reaffirming surgery (this includes the letter required from a family doctor only)
  • Prescribing appropriate medication follwing completion of assessment

You can also book an appointment at the Student Health & Wellness Centre if you are questioning or have questions about your gender identity. When you make your appointment at the Student Health & Wellness Centre, you must request for Dr. Glenn Andrea, Dr. Muna Chowdhury, Dr. Amy Mallory or Dr. Deanna Wolfe. 

Our health professionals will personalize their assessment based on their abilities and their knowledge of you. Common topics you will talk about include:

  • medical history (both physical and mental)
  • alcohol and drug involvement
  • smoking
  • family and social relationships
  • sexual orientation and practices
  • economic considerations and gender concerns
  • body parts and symptoms (specific to the reason you are coming into the clinic)

Students in Truro can access virtual care services for gender affirming care with a doctor at the Student Health & Wellness Centre in Halifax, or contact Dalhousie's 2SLGBTQ+ Advisor directly too help navigate booking an appointment.

Dalhousie's 2SLGBTQ+ Advisor, Olivia Fader

The 2SLGBTQ+ Advisor (Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and any non-normative identities) supports students through 1-1 advising, group programming, and campus-wide educational events to create a student experience that is meaningful and facilitates a sense of belonging.
