The Minor in Environmental Studies gives you the opportunity to gain an appreciation of the scientific, cultural, economic, historic, legal, and social aspects of the environmental issues facing our global community and prepare you with an understanding of the history of this crucial area of study—and its future implications. 

Careers and future studies

The School of Resource and Environmental Studies is working to address the environmental challenges associated with many human activities that threaten communities, nations, and the earth. The teachings of this minor are applicable for a number of careers trajectories that allow you to work alongside people with diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

Future studies could include a Master of Environmental Studies or a Master of Resource and Environmental Management.

What you will learn

Our scholarship and teaching are interdisciplinary and collaborative. Through classes, internships and research, you’ll gain a relevant, hands-on education that will position you to make real change in the world.

There are a select number of required courses to obtain a Minor in Environmental Studies, including Introduction to Environmental Science and Environmental Ethics, and a variety of electives such as: 

  • The Flora of Nova Scotia 

  • Communities and Ecosystems

  • Climate Change 

  • History of Seafaring

  • Nature Conservation 

  • Urban Ecology
