Responsible conduct of research
Responsible conduct of research, as described in the Tri-Agency Framework, is a commitment by researchers to honest and thoughtful inquiry, rigorous analysis, dissemination of research results and adherence to the highest professional standards in order to create a positive and productive research environment.
In practical terms, this principle involves:
conducting research involving humans in an ethical manner
ensuring proper animal care and use
engaging in research integrity practices around data management, supervision and attribution
safe and responsible handling and use of hazardous materials required for research purposes
ensuring that research involving Indigenous peoples and communities is premised on respectful relationships
At Dalhousie, we take these values and principles to heart, and—with guidance from the Tri-Agency Framework and the Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research—will continue to strive to maintain a positive research environment. To this end, all researchers are required to familiarize themselves with the relevant research policies and guidelines, including those concerned with conflicts of interest and scholarly misconduct.
