Why choose this minor?

Explore the combination of classical Greek and Roman philosophy and Jewish and Islamic schools of thought as they intersect with the emerging Christian religion, from the fall of the Roman Empire to the birth of the Renaissance. 

What you will learn

Investigate the origins of evil, the divine, and human free will through the writings of Medieval philosophers from Boethius to Maimonides to St. Augustine.

Sample courses include:

  • Medieval Philosophy from Arabic and Jewish Thinkers to Aquinas

  • Arabic Philosophical Texts: al-Ghazali

  • Arabic Philosophical Texts: Maimonides

  • Christian Theology in Islamic Lands: John of Damascus
