Dalhousie offers diverse and flexible pathways to help you achieve your academic goals. Explore our pathways and find the best route to join our community.

This one-year program at Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus is for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students who would not be eligible for admissions under Dalhousie’s current minimum high school prerequisites. 

University Prep courses prepare you to succeed in a wide range of studies, allowing you to:

  • Upgrade your marks

  • Earn a prerequisite to enter a specific university program

  • Build your confidence before taking a university credit course

Prep courses are offered in-person and online through the Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development based on the Halifax Campus.

A prep course is also offered online during the summer term through the Department of Extended Learning on the Truro campus. Explore this option.

These programs strengthen your English language skills for acceptance into your study area. EAP programs are in-person and online prep courses offered through the Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development based on the Halifax Campus.

If you're an applicant who is African Nova Scotian or Indigenous, you may be eligible for the Transition Year Program (TYP). This pathway to undergraduate study at Dalhousie offers financial support and a living allowance. 

Beyond Dalhousie

Achieving your goal of studying at Dalhousie University can include various educational institutions. Here is a list of some of the commonly used institutions and courses for upgrading.

  • Open University Pre-University Math 0110: equivalent to Academic Math 12

  • Open University Advanced Pre-University Math 0120: equivalent to Pre-Calculus 12

  • Courses equivalent to English 12: COMM 1041 or COMM 1100 or COMM 1000 or COMM 1001 or COMM 1205 & 2215 together (both courses must have final grades that meet Dalhousie’s admission requirements) or COMM 1227 & 1228 together (both courses must have final grades that meet Dalhousie’s admission requirements).

  • Courses equivalent to Academic Math 12: MATH 1050, MATH 1046 & 1047 together (both courses must have final grades that meet Dalhousie’s admission requirements). 

  • Courses equivalent to Pre-Calculus Math 12: MATH 1075, or MATH 1013 & 1023 together*, or MATH 1546 & 1547 together* (*both portions must have final grades that meet Dalhousie’s admission requirements).

  • Courses equivalent to Physics 12: PHYS 1046 or PHYS 1047 

  • Courses equivalent to Chemistry 12: CHEM 1046 or CHEM 1050

  • Courses equivalent to Biology 12: BIOL 1046 or BIOL 1050 

  • Writing Skills: equivalent to English 12

  • Pre-University Math: equivalent to Academic Math 12 

  • Pre-Calculus Math: equivalent to Pre-Calculus 12

  • Online Biology 12: equivalent to Biology 12 

  • Chemistry 12: equivalent to Chemistry 12

  • Pre-University Physics is equivalent to Physics 12

  • University Math Preparation (Pre-Calculus Online) equivalent to Pre-Calculus 12

  • All courses taken through the VHS and coded 4M/4U are equivalent to a grade 12 in-class version.
