What is academic quality assurance?
Academic quality assurance is a series of standards and practices that ensure the quality and continuous improvement of our academic programs. Quality assurance is a significant responsibility of universities. By engaging in regular assessment and review processes, Dalhousie demonstrates its commitment to:
- Transparency and accountability
- Excellence and continuous improvement
- Strategic planning
- Risk assessment and mitigation
As a member of Universities Canada, Dalhousie follows the academic quality assurance principles set by that organization for institutions across Canada. Our academic quality assurance activities also conform to the standards and guidelines set by the Maritimes Province Higher Education Commission (MPHEC).
Within Dalhousie, responsibility for academic quality assurance lies with Senate, the university's senior academic governing body. Academic quality assurance policies and procedures are administered by the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic, with oversight delegated to the associate vice-president academic.
