Research

Create knowledge in a supportive environment

The Graduate Studies program in Microbiology and Immunology is first and foremost a research-based program. You’ll work side-by-side with a supervisor on your research project that is directly related to their area of expertise.

Additional benefits

  • participate in a weekly journal club course
  • attend weekly department seminars
  • learn from visiting speakers
  • advanced courses in your discipline

A multidisciplinary approach

During your studies, you'll work collaboratively with undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, technicians and faculty members, guaranteeing you exposure to a diverse range of experience and knowledge. Working together you’ll engage in novel research and make interesting new discoveries.

In the process of your graduate program, you’ll develop your teaching and communication skills. Senior students often have the opportunity to mentor those more junior. Looking for a little extra teaching experience? Consider working as a teaching assistant. Contact us for more information.

In addition there is support available from the Integrated Health Research Training Program (IHRTP), which offers workshops in grant writing and responsible conduct of research.

The activities within the department afford many opportunities for graduate students to participate in leading edge research.
