PharmD/Master of Health Administration

Canada’s only combined PharmD and MHA program

The PharmD/MHA program combines a professional, patient-oriented qualification with a master’s degree that provides the systems level thinking needed by health care leaders. This program builds on the success of the long-standing JD/MHA which has proven to bring diverse perspectives that enrich the classroom experience of all students.

Health care has never been more complex or more dependent on interprofessional collaboration. Today, more than ever, health care leaders are needed in every profession. Through five years of intensive and rewarding study, you will complete requirements for both degrees—and emerge as tomorrow’s healthcare leader.

Combined excellence

The combined PharmD/MHA program is built on collaboration between the School of Health Administration and the College of Pharmacy – both in the Faculty of Health. The option of a combined PharmD/Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree will enable you to both practice pharmacy and embark on a leadership career. The combined degree allows you to complete both degrees in a shorter period of time than taking the degrees separately: 5 years instead of 5.5 years.

How it works

You must apply for and be accepted in both programs independently. In your first year, in the combined degree you will complete either the first full year of the PharmD program or the MHA program. In second year, you will complete the first year of the alternate program.

Following completion of your first year of the MHA program (either in your first or second year of study), you will complete the required four-month, 600-hour summer residency. You will be credited with the elective placement that occurs in the final year of the PharmD program.

In years 3 and 4, you will complete the remaining courses in the PharmD program.

The final year (fifth year) of the combined program, you will complete the remaining components of both programs:

  • 12-week pharmacy placement between May and August of the fourth and fifth year.
  • Complete the five remaining MHA courses in the fall term of the fifth year (September to December).
  • Second 12-week pharmacy placement in the winter term.
