Welcome to Schulich Law

Next steps for new students

Congratulations on confirming your acceptance and securing your seat in the first-year class at the Schulich School of Law starting in September 2025.

Below you will find information on what to expect leading up to September, including a number of resources that may be helpful in planning your transition to law school.

After confirming your acceptance

Once you have accepted your offer, your seat has been secured. There is no further action required of you at this time. The next step will be around registration.

Please note: If you are admitted to one of our combined degree programs, please let us know so that we can complete the necessary paperwork.

Registration

Registration typically occurs in July. Instructions and detailed information will be sent out via email one to two weeks before the registration date. Once registration is completed, you will be able to access the Confirmation of Enrolment form.

In the lead-up to registration we will reach out to confirm attendance.  This typically happens in late-June.

Please note that registering for the first year of law school does not require any course selection as curriculum is pre-determined and mandatory. Students are placed in one of three sections.

Confirmation of Enrolment

Financial institutions will often ask for proof of enrollment as part of your funding application. You can access a Confirmation of Enrolment form after your registration is complete. Many organizations will accept e-mail confirmation of your acceptance until the confirmation of enrolment form is available. Confirmation of Enrolment may also be required for visa or other purposes.

Instructions on accessing the Confirmation of Enrolment form will be included in your registration instructions in July.

Academic & Student Services Office

During your time at law school the Academic & Student Services Office will be an important resource and source of support for you. They provide many services including academic advising, the Student Success Program and the Wellness@Weldon program.

Academic Accommodation

Schulich Law Student Services works with Dalhousie’s Student Accessibility Centre to ensure student access, inclusion, and accommodation support.

We can support you in several ways:

  • Facilitate access to academic courses and programs, facilities, services, and activities
  • Identify classroom, exam and other accommodations to reduce barriers to your learning
  • Advocate on behalf of, and alongside you, to ensure reasonable accommodations are available and implemented
  • Assist you in accessing disability-related funding
  • Connect you with on and off-campus resources to enhance your success

If you have experienced or anticipate barriers in your learning, visit Dal's Academic Support site to learn more about available accommodations before you arrive. Incoming students who will be requesting accommodation for the first time are encouraged to review the information on requesting accommodation for the first time to help ensure a seamless transition.

Orientation

Orientation events and programming offers first year students the opportunity to socialize with each other, to learn some fundamentals of legal education, and to meet members of the law school and legal community. Orientation usually takes place during the first week of classes. Details about the timeline and specific events will be sent out in the summer by the orientation committee.

Housing

Dalhousie University is located in Halifax’s South End, which has many options for off-campus student housing. While there is living accommodations available on campus in our student residence halls, most law students live off-campus. You will have the opportunity to meet fellow law students via social media and orientation events before September if you wish to share off-campus accommodations.

Technical Requirements

The Schulich School of Law has implemented computerized examinations. Please check your computer specifications to ensure that it can run the exam software as tablets, chromebooks, and older versions of MacOS and Windows are not compatible.
