Daniel MacNeil
MA Musicology (cand.), 2021
MA Thesis: Politics, Tourism, and Festival in the Andalusian-Flamenco Culture in Morocco 2010-2020
Why Dal?
Location, funding and faculty expertise were all essential in contributing to my decision. Having a background in performance and composition and a career already established in Halifax in both performance and teaching, it was ideal for me to study here. The scholarships awarded through the Fountain School of Performing Arts and the Faculty of Graduate Studies, as well as the accomplished and outstanding faculty in musicology, made Dal my top choice in pursuing a MA in Musicology.
What Inspires You?
People inspire me. Having studied music throughout Canada and internationally, developing a diversified portfolio of genre(s), theory and techniques, I have come to realize that my greatest inspirations come from both function and context––how and why people perform and use music in any stream, whether secular, religious, or spiritual.
