Career Path
My library experience has been diverse. I have worked in management roles in public libraries in New Brunswick and Alberta, the Legislative Library at the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick and currently Horizon Health Network. Dalhousie's MI/MLIS degree provided me with the skills, experiences, and competencies to thrive and adapt in an ever-changing information environment. Barriers to information are an ongoing challenge and the degree has given me the expertise to help clients navigate those barriers in information services settings.
What do you like best about your job?
There are so many things I really enjoy! I enjoy research and I like that each day is different. I am continuously learning. I love collaborating with other librarians from other provinces and library settings and learning how they approach information services. It is extremely rewarding helping clients find the information they need to improve patient care.
What advice would you give to someone entering the program now?
It is important to be open to change because how we acquire, process and share information is always evolving. The MI degree can open doors career-wise because the training provided is valuable to so many organizations. It is a good idea to take elective courses in various subject areas to help provide a broader perspective and additional knowledge that will enhance your experience within the degree.
