About
Energy is a fundamental element of modern life, and demand for energy continues to increase. It has been recognized that energy production and consumption without consideration of questions relating to sustainability and environmental impacts is dangerously short-sighted. The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (2030 Agenda) came into effect in 2016, calling for all nations to enhance prosperity while also protecting the Earth. Reducing poverty, thriving economically and tackling climate change are all influenced by our energy systems – as such, energy is crucial to achieving the UN 2030 agenda. Access to affordable, sustainable and reliable energy is key to sustainable development.
SDG 7 – Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Our research is particularly relevant to supporting SDG 7. It is our vision to better understand the relationships between energy, the earth, society and the environment. By investigating topics related to energy-related greenhouse gas emission reduction, energy storage, security and sustainability, we aim to add to the knowledge-base and conversation surrounding this critical matter.
