Opportunities to Get Involved: Student Intern Membership in the Teachers Association for Physical and Health Education is available to full-time university students enrolled in education programs. A student intern member is not eligible to vote or hold elected office; however, a student intern member is eligible to serve on committees. Subscriber Membership is available to an institution or a person who is not a regular or student intern member. A subscriber member is not eligible to vote, hold elected office or serve on committees.

Description: Volunteer-based health charity, leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living and advocacy. In Nova Scotia: Contributed expertise to the development of Nova Scotia’s stroke strategy and have helped secure financial support for its implementation; Working with communities and governments to develop living spaces that help Nova Scotians be more physically active; Supporting the provincial government and the Nova Scotia Recreation Facility Association on increasing the number of defibrillators installed in sport and recreation facilities.

Volunteer Opportunities: Opportunities involve canvassing, administrative duties, organizing activities and more. Lots of opportunities to volunteer and several sub-organizations.

Promoting Health: Doctors Nova Scotia is passionate about improving patient care and helping Nova Scotians live healthy and active lives. Its award-winning Kids’ Run Club, progressive leadership in banning tanning beds for youth under 19, and historic role in strengthening smoke-free legislation are all examples of its commitment to helping Nova Scotians live healthy. The Strive Award is given annually to a Nova Scotia community group making innovative and strategic action to support and promote health.

Nova Scotia Citizens’ Health Care Network

Description: Goal is to stop the privatization of the public health care system, ensure high levels of care, and create a forum for people and communities to discuss issues in health care. The Network is a coalition of local health committees, community groups, organized labour, faith groups, women’s organizations, students, and individuals dedicated to protecting and extending public health care to include services like pharmacare, dental care, long-term care, mental health care and home care.
