Dr. Ruth Martin-Misener is a Professor at the School of Nursing, Dalhousie University, Co-Lead for Collaborative Research in Primary Health Care (CoR-PHC), which is a new interdisciplinary research group at Dalhousie University, and Co-Director of the Canadian Centre for Advanced Practice Nursing Research at McMaster University. Her program of health services research examines innovative models of team-based primary health care in community and long-term care settings with a particular focus on specialized and advanced practice nursing roles. Dr. Martin-Misener is one of the pioneers of research into the role, implementation and impact of nurse practitioners within primary health care in Canada. She has published extensively on nurse practitioner practice and health system reform in primary health care and been actively involved nationally and provincially in developing and evaluating policy for nurse practitioner regulation and education. She is a recognized expert in nurse practitioner education, curricula, standards, and evaluation and has been a consultant to many programs and organizations in other jurisdictions.
