A Fully Integrated Learning Program

Concepts in Chemistry is a complete, focused and integrated first-year chemistry program designed to provide students with the resources they need to succeed.  The program focuses on delivering the fundamental topics in chemistry in a way that engages students both in and out of the classroom.  The three main components of Concepts in Chemistry - the student lecture books, instructor lecture materials and online content – are a result of a unique collaboration between first-year chemistry teachers and students.

History

Since its launch in 2006, more than 10,000 students have completed the program with documented student success in grade improvement and increased student enrolment in upper level chemistry classes. 

Concepts in Chemistry was developed in response to student and instructor requests for useful resources that both engage and support them in their learning and teaching. The portable lecture books are designed to be concise and focused, with space for students to take notes during class. The lecture slides are built from material in the lecture books and provide instructors with a framework from which to teach. Individualized online assignments encourage student collaboration on a conceptual level and access students’ understanding of material covered in class. With more than 200 online video tutorials, students can get the help they need solving a variety of chemistry problems any time of the day.
