Christmas Day kudos to the grounds crew

Posted by Facilities Management on January 9, 2025 in Kudos

Next time you see someone from the university’s grounds crew, feel free to give them an extra smile.

While many of us were thrilled to wake up to the white stuff on December 25, SEVEN of the Halifax team were on campus clearing the snow as usual.

Even though campus was closed, essential research is still going on, security is still on site, and more than 150 students remained in residence over the break. And, of course, our thermal plant has staff on duty 24/7, so our team made sure our grounds were salted, safe and easy to navigate.

Although there has been a bit of snow on Christmas Day in the recent past, this is the first time in 17 years that Environmental Services Manager Mike Wilkinson remembers having to call in a full crew to leave their families and come to work. Shoutout to Derek Pearson, Dave Akerley, Basil Wile, Patrick Abels, Tim Mason, Kelsey Connick and Frederick Vogels!

Dal's Agricultural Campus also had grounds team working through the snow on Christmas Day — kudos to Andrew Stewart, Tyler Nason and Jamie MacLean for their hard work!
