New: Dal Microcredential digital badges

Posted by Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development on June 25, 2024 in General Announcements

As part of Dalhousie’s ongoing commitment to digital transformation, the Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development (OLCD) is delighted to announce that they have joined the MyCreds National Network to offer Dal Microcredential digital badges securely and electronically.

The MyCreds National Network is a shared service and platform that provides learners and alumni with access to a secure, password-protected credential wallet. This virtual wallet allows them to view and share their microcredentials, official transcripts, and academic documents on a 24/7 basis – anytime, anywhere.

MyCreds is owned by the Association of Registrars of the Universities and Colleges of Canada (ARUCC) and has been adopted by all of Nova Scotia’s public post-secondary institutions, as well as by many other universities across Canada, such as the University of Alberta, Université de Montréal, and University of Waterloo. Dalhousie first teamed up with MyCreds in April 2023 to provide digital official transcripts, and is now expanding its offerings by issuing microcredential digital badges through the platform.

OLCD offers Dal Microcredentials, digital credentials that are issued when an individual successfully demonstrates a skill or competency that is considered desirable to employers. By teaming up with MyCreds, earners of a Dal Microcredential will receive a verified digital badge with the Dalhousie logo that they can share with their employer or network of contacts at no cost.

Dalhousie is implementing a step-by-step plan to release documents through MyCreds. This currently includes the option for learners to share microcredentials and digital official transcripts. Additional offerings for other academic documents are expected to be added in the near future.
