Ergonomics Days

Posted by Human Resources on January 16, 2024 in Human Resources

As part of Dal's Ergonomics Days, which will run January 29 – 31, Human Resources will collaborate with the School of Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development, and the Environmental Health and Safety Office to highlight resources related to ergonomics. These can help you with your at-home work set up, your on-campus one, or with transitioning back and forth.

Live and Online Sessions

  • Join a live, interactive workshop: Ergo on the Go: Solutions for Hybrid Work and Study with Dal Occupational Therapy students, available on multiple dates, all from 12 – 1 p.m. on MS Teams.
  • If you want to deepen your learning about ergonomics, the Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development offers an online course, and here are the steps to access it:
    1. Login to Brightspace.
    2. Click on this link to register for the ergonomics course.

Resources

  • Visit the Environmental Health and Safety Office site's Ergonomics section.
  • Explore a video series with the Dal Tiger demonstrating some of the specific aspects of what we used to call office ergonomics, which really means all the computer work we find ourselves doing now.
  • Have your own virtual ergonomic assessment. Complete the Ergonomic Assessment Intake Form through the Environmental Health and Safety Office. You will be paired with an Occupational Therapy student who will remotely help determine your ergonomic set up and give you some advice on making the most of your current arrangement.

Tips

  • Review how much you exercise, sit and sleep. Consider these Canadian Movement Guidelines for adults aged 18-64 years of age.
  • Build your mobility and strength with this video that includes at-home exercises.
  • Learn some stretches to overcome sitting at a computer all day.
