Participants age 50‑65 needed for clinical trial of shingles vaccine

Posted by Canadian Center for Vaccinology on November 22, 2023 in General Announcements

The Canadian Center for Vaccinology (CCfV) is looking for volunteers for a clinical trial evaluating safety and effectiveness of a new shingles vaccine.

Shingles is a viral infection of the nerves accompanied by a painful rash. It is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus responsible for chicken pox. Vaccines can help lower the risk of shingles.

This study has 10 clinic visits at CCfV (located at the IWK) and approximately 3 safety telephone calls over approximately 8 months. Participants will receive financial compensation for their time in the study.

You can take part in this study if:

  1. You are 50-65 years old (inclusive)
  2. You are generally healthy.
  3. You have no history of shingles in the past 5 years.
  4. You have not received shingles vaccines before.
  5. You are not currently a smoker and have not been in the last 2 years.
