Dalhousie University will be hosting the Bridges 2023 conference on Math and Art at the Sexton Campus July 27-31. This exciting meeting will feature several events open to the general public, including a Family Day at the Halifax Central Library on July 30 and a public lecture on aperiodic monotiles on July 27.

Family day runs from 1-5:30 on Sunday July 30 and incorporates hands-on workshops, mathematical poetry reading, a short film festival, and a mathematical art exhibition in Medjuck Hall.

The public lecture on July 27 at 8 pm in the Irving auditorium from Craig Kaplan (Waterloo) will focus on the exciting recent discovery of aperiodic monotiles. Each of these monotiles is a shape that can tile a flat 2 dimensional surface without any sort of repeating pattern. his work has recently been featured by many major media outlets (including CTV, the Guardian, Scientific American and the New York Times).

Please join us to explore the many deep and fascinating connections between mathematics and art!
