About the opportunity This is a joint appointment with the School for Resource and Environmental Studies and the College of Sustainability.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching SUST 3000.03 “Environmental Decision Making” (hybrid delivery) and SUST 1400.03 “Exploring Sustainability” (online) within the College of Sustainability (undergraduate) and ENVI 5031.03 “Economics for Resource and Environmental Management” (live) within the School for Resource and Environmental Studies (graduate). Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including review and updates to the Brightspace site, creation, and review of course materials, quizzes and assignments, assessment descriptions and rubrics, management of the course delivery including communication with students, student engagement on Brightspace, and evaluation of all assignments.
The successful candidate should expect to spend some time before the official course start date in preparation, during the course overseeing the course TAs and markers, marking assignments and course wrap-up after the end of term. During the course delivery the successful candidate will be expected to participate in both the lectures and selected tutorials.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
· A graduate degree in a field related to evidence based environmental analysis and decision making.
· Expertise in interdisciplinary learning and teaching sustainability knowledge and competencies to undergraduate students.
· Minimum of three years of teaching experience and demonstrated evidence of teaching basic data/numeracy concepts to interdisciplinary students with varied backgrounds and experiences.
· Demonstrated competency in both virtual and in-person teaching.
· Post-graduate certificate in university teaching and learning or equivalent experience desirable.
· Evidence of successful integration of accessibility/UDL principles into previous teaching.
· Ability to work with colleagues collaboratively and constructively. Strong analytical, problem- solving, and communication skills.
· Proficiency with Dalhousie’s learning management system (Brightspace) is considered essential.
· Previous experience supervising and mentoring teaching assistants and/or markers.
