The School of Health and Human Performance in Dalhousie's Faculty of Health invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, limited term instructor position, commencing July 1, 2022 for a two year term. The primary duties of this position are the preparation and delivery of undergraduate laboratory experiences, supervision, coordination and training of teaching assistants, and the development of faculty resources to support teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach classes when necessary and contribute to the experiential learning component of the Kinesiology curriculum.

Dalhousie University is comprised of 6,000 faculty and staff amongst its 13 Faculties. Current enrollment is 18,500 graduate and undergraduate students. The School of Health and Human Performance vision is physical and mental wellness for all. The School offers programs leading to Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, and Recreation Management. The Division of Kinesiology is seeking candidates for the position of Limited Term Instructor. The primary duties of this position are the preparation and delivery of undergraduate laboratory experiences, supervision, coordination and training of teaching assistants, and the development of faculty resources to support teaching. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach classes when necessary and contribute to the experiential learning component of the Kinesiology curriculum.

The successful candidate must have a master's degree in Kinesiology (Ph.D. preferred) or related discipline with expertise in human movement sciences which encompasses biomechanics, ergonomics, and anatomy. The successful candidate must have technical skills related to fixing/maintaining small electronics/circuitry and experience using relevant computer hardware/software (e.g., motion-capture systems, force transducers, EMG, virtual anatomy, etc.). Preference will be given to applicants who have previous work experience in a kinesiology setting. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of strong laboratory technical abilities, teaching experience, and interpersonal skills. Experience in curriculum design that is informed by culturally diverse pedagogies (e.g., Mi'kmaq, African Nova Scotian, etc.) is an asset.

The successful candidate will work individually, with faculty, staff, teaching assistants and students to grow and improve the delivery of Kinesiology undergraduate and graduate programs. They will be required to teach two three-credit hour courses such as KINE 2465 (Introduction to Biomechanics), KINE 3476 (Principles of Ergonomics) and/or KINE 4578 (Physical Ergonomics). As well, they will provide teaching and technical support (e.g., for a variety of labs with a focus on biomechanics and ergonomics/human factors) as well as supervise teaching assistants. This support will consist of supervising and training teaching assistants, preparing, administering and grading examinations, laboratory assignments and reports for labs with a focus on biomechanics and ergonomics, such as: KINE 2465 (Introduction to biomechanics), KINE 2320 (Kinesiological anatomy), KINE 4466 (Advanced biomechanics), KINE 3500 (Principles of measurement and evaluation), KINE 3476 (Principles of ergonomics), KINE 4577 (Cognitive ergonomics), KINE 4578 (Physical ergonomics), KINE 3482 (Care and prevention of injuries), and KINE 3320 (Anatomical basis of human movement). It is expected that the successful candidate will supervise directed studies, undergraduate honours research students, and experiential learning opportunities, as well as participate in Division, School and Faculty-level committees.
