Posted by School for Resource and Environmental Studies on December 13, 2021 in Job Postings

School for Resource and Environmental Studies (SRES)

Instructor of Resource and Environmental Studies

SRES provides a dynamic setting for creative, interdisciplinary scholarship that addresses societal challenges related to natural resources, the environment and human development. We have a passion for making the world a much better place through the creation, application and mobilization of knowledges that further social and ecological sustainability. SRES delivers two programs: a thesis-based Master of Environmental Studies (MES) and a course-based Master of Resource and Environmental Management (MREM). SRES faculty also teach in the undergraduate Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of Environmental Science, and Environment, Sustainability and Society programs, the latter offered through Dalhousie’s College of Sustainability. Faculty also supervise PhD students through Dalhousie’s Interdisciplinary PhD program.

This is a career-stream Instructor position. The teaching responsibilities could include co‑teaching core MGMT 1301/1302 Interdisciplinary Management, as well as teaching other SRES graduate and undergraduate courses across a range of interdisciplinary topics that cut across faculties. While there is the necessity for flexibility in how teaching responsibilities will be allocated, the instructor will ideally be able to teach ENVI5041 Environmental Education, and MGMT 3701 Problem Solving I – Community as a Living Lab. The instructor will be expected to have further competencies related to managing human impacts on the natural world, environmental assessment, delivering field courses focused on terrestrial/restoration ecology, experience coaching students on professional development, and/or experimental research design. Student supervision and advising activities will also be a key element of the instructor’s responsibilities.

Applicants must have a PhD, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and enthusiasm to teach in diverse settings (large and small undergraduate classes as well as graduate classes) related to the candidate’s areas of expertise. The ability and willingness to work with colleagues constructively is essential. SRES contributes broadly across the Dalhousie campus and has a unique commitment to values-based resource and environmental management, and interdisciplinary research and learning. Thus, the successful candidate will have opportunities to work with like-minded colleagues in units such as the Rowe School of Business, School of Public Administration, and School of Information Management, College of Sustainability and Department of Earth and Environmental Science. Information about SRES can be found at https://www.dal.ca/faculty/management/sres.html.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Dalhousie University is committed to fostering a collegial culture grounded in diversity and inclusiveness. The university encourages applications from Indigenous persons, persons with a disability, racially visible persons, women, persons of a minority sexual orientation and/or gender identity, and all candidates who would contribute to the diversity of our community. Applicants should include in their submissions a cover letter addressed to the attention of Dr. Tony Walker, Chair of the Search Committee, a current CV, a statement of teaching competencies, and a teaching dossier that includes evidence of teaching effectiveness.
