Employment Opportunity: Part‑time Academic Posting in the Early Modern Studies Program

The University of King's College's Early Modern Studies Program invites applications for a part-time instructor who would be responsible for teaching the following course:

EMSP 2480/HIST 2750  The Pirate & Piracy

This course will examine early modern historical, philosophical, and literary accounts of pirates and piracy. It will also trace ancient and medieval precursors to these early modern treatments as well as consider later representations - literary and cinematic - of early modern piracy and implications for contemporary piracy.
The course is crosslisted with History.

The class will be offered in either the Fall term (September-December 2021) or Winter term (January-April 2022).

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 3 hours of classes per week, evaluating assignments, attending staff meetings, and holding office hours. The course may well be held online. Applicants who are only available to teach this course online are also invited to apply. If eligible, the candidate may be required to supervise a teaching assistant(s). This position reports to the Director of the Program.

Qualifications and Experience:
Applicants should possess, as a minimum requirement, a master's degree in early modern studies or a relevant discipline or field of research. Some expertise in the history of maritime piracy will be an asset. Prior experience teaching at the University level is required.

Pay Rate: Remuneration is based upon qualifications and experience.
