Dalhousie Medicine Advocacy Video Series

Posted by Faculty of Medicine on December 2, 2020 in General Announcements

We are a group of medical students at Dalhousie Medical School working in conjunction with Dr. Wendy Stewart and the Dalhousie Medical Humanities HEALS Program on a project that compiles and highlights health advocacy efforts in the Dalhousie Medicine community. Specifically, we are looking to develop a short video series that showcases these stories to create a more tangible and local understanding of advocacy and to strengthen the voices of those engaged and/or impacted by these efforts. We are hoping to interview medical students, residents, staff physicians, or other advocacy leaders and healthcare workers who are affiliated with Dalhousie University, in order to better understand how advocacy is enacted within the Dalhousie medical education community.

The interview format is flexible, and can take place either in-person (with appropriate social distancing measures per public health guidelines), online, or by phone. You will be asked to attend one interview that is expected to take approximately 1 hour. You may invite others who have participated in your proposed advocacy initiative to be interviewed in the same visit. During the visit, you will be asked to introduce yourself, speak about your advocacy experience and why you started the initiative, and any challenges and advice you may have for future advocates. Based on the interviews and with your input, our group will develop a video or a short written article of your advocacy initiative.

If you have any advocacy efforts you would like us to highlight, please complete this google form below. This will help us get a better idea of the advocacy initiative and the best way to showcase these efforts. If you know of other individuals/groups that would be interested in participating in this video series, please let us know.

Please note that your decision to participate or decline in this project will have no impact on your professional or academic standing, nor any existing relationships you may have with a member of the research team.

If you have any questions or concerns about your participation in this research study, please contact our team at dalhousieaim@gmail.com or 782-822-5953 at any time with questions, comments, or concerns about the research study.

Thank you so much for your consideration. We look forward to speaking with you!
