Increased synchronous support for students at the Dalhousie Writing Centre

Posted by Dalhousie Writing Centre on November 2, 2020 in General Announcements

The Writing Centre is fully open online to provide student writing support during the academic year. Please feel free to share this short video about our services (https://youtu.be/fFMI2E6jgKM) with your students on your Brightspace and/or social media channels.

Along with our regular services of online review appointments (students send in a draft paper at any stage of the writing process for feedback and review) and synchronous video-chat appointments about writing and writing assignments, we are now offering the following additional synchronous sessions for students:

Daily Synchronous Drop-in Sessions

Beginning Monday, November 2, the Writing Centre will hold Synchronous Drop-in Sessions every weekday from 1:00-2:00 PM AST. During that time, students can drop in to the virtual Brightspace link https://ca.bbcollab.com/guest/f79c506802b04a77b82b4ac9494b7662 without needing to pre-book an appointment, on a first-come, first-served basis to ask a quick question about grammar, citation, structure, or other aspects of writing. Additional sessions may be added with increased demand. See dal.ca/writingcentre for ongoing updates.

Wednesday Synchronous Workshops

The Writing Centre's new Weekly Wednesday Workshops are a series of synchronous sessions on a variety of important topics in academic writing. The sessions will run every Wednesday from 3:00-4:00 PM AST until the end of term. The sessions are free to join, and no pre-registration is required. Join a session at https://ca.bbcollab.com/collab/ui/session/guest/3bec324c6de84b569a00b3a6ddc64984 The first session, Sentence Types, will be Wednesday, Nov 4, and Writing Thesis Statements will be Wednesday, Nov 18. See dal.ca/writingcentre for a list of future workshop topics.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing your students at the Writing Centre!
