The postdoctoral fellow will be conducting an industry-involved Mitacs-funded research project on the assessment of natural compounds (such as cannabinoids and terpenes) for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) using experimental models. Investigations will evaluate the involvement of the endocannabinoid system in gut inflammation, including validation of cannabinoid receptor 2 as an effective drug target for therapeutic management of the symptoms of IBD. In addition, it will examine in vitro and in vivo pharmacological effects, efficacy and tolerability of the compound treatments alone and in combination with other clinical treatments. The research will be carried out at the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, under the supervision of Dr. Juan Zhou and Dr. Christian Lehmann.
