Dalhousie University Pandemic Plan for Receiving Deliveries Revised April 8, 2020

Due to the closure of campus buildings as a result of the pandemic, the ability of Faculties and departments to receive deliveries of goods has been significantly reduced. This has created a backlog of pending deliveries and uncertainty in how to receive goods when placing new orders to maintain critical activities. To assist, the Procurement office has reached out to the following receiving areas and Security Services and they have agreed to facilitate receiving of goods.

Please note the following important requirements:

  • Receiving hours and available storage at the locations are limited and therefore only necessary requirements should be delivered to these areas.
  • Please ensure the carrier delivering the package is made aware of hours of operation for receiving at each campus.

  • Delivery of dangerous goods or goods that require special handling may require alternate arrangements. Please check with the receiving location prior to placing orders.

  • To ensure you can retrieve your package clearly identifying the name, phone number and contact information of the receiver on the package or waybill. Valid University ID will be required in order to pick up for the items.

  • Once the goods are received, the receiving area will contact the department to arrange a time to come to the receiving area and pick up the packages.

  • Regular Mail will continue to be processed at the mailrooms on Oxford Street and Cumming Hall
  • If larger bulk items such as equipment and furniture must be received, each department will be required to coordinate delivery to the campus location for these items including gaining authorized access to the location. This may require Security Services to provide access as follows:
  • Please contact the security office at 902-494-6400 in advance as access must be coordinated within their operational priorities.

  • A departmental staff member will need to facilitate wayfinding and remain present to accept deliveries. (Security staff are not able to remain on sight).
  • Security will require the Principle Investigator to be present in order to provide access to research labs.
