Welcome to Dalhousie!
There are supports and resources available to you as part-time academics, for all aspects of teaching and learning. Come join us for some food and conversation and the opportunity to ask questions. You’ll meet new colleagues and other part-time academics. In just two hours, we’ll help you become familiar with various services, resources, and supports, including where to find supports for your students. This is a free, voluntary, lunchtime session for part-time academics (i.e., sessional instructors / adjunct faculty).

Schedule - each topic includes some time for questions
11:30-11:50 Dr. Betsy Keating, Educational Developer (Faculty)
Will introduce services available at the Centre for Learning and Teaching and touch on topics such as Student Ratings of Instruction (SRIs), teaching and learning workshops, consultations, and the Faculty Certificate Program.
11:50-12:10 Chad O’Brien, Educational Developer (eLearning)
Will offer some information about pedagogy and educational technologies at Dalhousie, details on institutional supports, and the relations between available technologies and teaching and learning.
12:10-12:30 Janice MacInnis, Manager, Organizational Health, Human Resources
Will help you become familiar with Dalhousie’s health and wellness supports for part-time academics, how to access them, and offer some advice on maintaining balance in your new position.
12:30-12:50 Dr. Margie Clow Bohan, Manager, Dalhousie Writing Centre
Will introduce the services of Dalhousie’s Writing Centre and offer some resources for assisting your students to enhance their writing.
12:50-1:10 Melissa Helwig, Instruction and Research Librarian
Will introduce the Libraries’ services (including document delivery, instruction, and research services), connect you with your liaison librarian and research guide, and let you know where to find help with copyright issues.
1:10-1:30 Tereigh Ewert-Bauer, Senior Educational Developer (Diversity and Inclusivity)
Will offer a quick overview of CLT resources for instructors building diversity and inclusion into their courses, and will share existing resources for students. What can we do in our classrooms to create an inclusive learning space, and if we aren’t equipped to support a student in a certain matter, where can we redirect them to maximize their chances of success?
