THEA 2820.06XY: Dance and Movement II
September 1, 2019 – April 30, 2020

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts

PAY RATE: As per CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of THEA 2820.06XY: Dance and Movement II, from September 1, 2019 to April 30, 2020. Thiscourse is a requirement for students enrolled in the Honors BA in Theatre (Acting Program) and is a practical, physical, studio exploration into movement and dance techniques. Emphasis is on time, space, energy, correct body alignment and safe practices, withattention to the development of personal expression through the mediums of movement and dance, as well as on the development of practical skills in preparation for a career in the professional theatre. The instructor is required to provide a Method of Assessment after consulting with full-time Acting Program faculty. As well, the instructor is required to prepareand grade all assignments, and to calculate final marks in time for student interviews that take place at the end of each term. Final marks must then be submitted online. This position works in collaboration with full-time Acting Program faculty and reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree, including the following qualifications are required for
this position:
(1) substantial experience and specialization in a form of movement considered valuable for
actors (especially movement for the stage);
(2) ability to instruct students with diverse dance-training backgrounds, new movers, and
broad levels of musicality, dexterity, and coordination;
(3) teaching experience at the post-secondary level;
(4) evidence of strong teaching effectiveness.
