Call for nomination to current and past Dalhousie University Senators ‑ to appoint to Search Committee for Assistant Vice‑president, Communications and Marketing

Posted by University Secretariat on May 7, 2019 in General Announcements

The University is embarking on a search process for the position of Assistant Vice President, Communications & Marketing.

A brief profile of the position is provided below:

Reporting to the President, the Assistant Vice President, Communications & Marketing will provide leadership and be accountable for the development, implementation, and outcomes of the university’s long term marketing and communications goals.

The incumbent will work closely with the President and senior administration, Deans and Directors to ensure continuity and coordination of the University’s key strategic messages and brand components in all aspects of communications and marketing, and to all audiences. The successful candidate should have experience with a broad range of marketing and communications tools and
approaches appropriately used with varied market segments external to and within Dalhousie. An understanding of market research and how to translate research results into effective strategies and tactical plans will be important.

The AVP will enhance and promote Dalhousie in a positive, proactive, and consistent manner to support the University’s academic objectives, enrollment goals, and financial needs in accordance with the Strategic Plan of the University. The AVP will serve as champion of Dalhousie’s reputation, its unique character, and its commitment to excellence and the community. In doing so, it will be important to differentiate Dalhousie from its competitors in the marketplace consistent with the agreed upon brand promise.

Chaired by the VP, Finance and Administration, Ian Nason, the Search committee includes Board, faculty and staff representation. Nominations are being sought from among current and past Academic Unit Senators for one position on the Search committee.

Senators interested in serving should submit a nomination package which includes the following:

  • Statement of interest: Nominees must describe the skills and
strengths that they would bring - including the diverse perspectives,
identities and ideas - to bear in their role.
  • Abbreviated CV (4 pages maximum)

Participating in the Search committee requires a commitment of time and effort (6-8 meetings between May and July) to ensure this important decision is made with due consideration.

If you are interested in serving in this role, please send the above requested information to senate@dal.ca by 12 noon on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

You can nominate a current or past Senator or self-nominate.  This call is directed to academic unit senators only, as representatives fulfilling the other university stakeholder roles on the search committee are being sought separately by the Chair of the Search Committee.

Nominations will be considered at the May 15th meeting of the Senate Planning and Governance Committee, who will then make a recommendation on behalf of Senate.
