WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching the summer course, BIOL/MARI 3221.03, "Diversity of Algae".  The course will be offered in an intensive format, with lectures, labs and field trips, and will meet all day, Monday through Sunday from May 6 – 28, 2019. Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, labs, field trips, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and assignments.  The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the SEASIDE program director, and keeping lab and field-related expenses within the approved budget. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates preparing and marking.


REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: An advanced degree in Biology or related field and considerable experience with the biology and identification of algae.  Up-to-date (within last 3 years) Standard First Aid and CPR certification. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the course.

The course will be offered in the summer session and meet from May 13 – 28, 2019, Sunday through Saturday, approx. 0905-1655 (but on the week-long field trip the day will usually start at 0430).  Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, field trips, labs, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academic will be responsible for students at all times of day for 7 days while off campus in southwestern NS. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director, and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. In addition, the part-time academic will be responsible for driving students in vehicles rented by the university, and for meal planning and obtaining food and supplies for the week off campus. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates in preparation for the course and marking assignments.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: A graduate degree in Biology or related field and field research experience with birds.  Up-to-date Standard First Aid and CPR certification and driver's license valid in Nova Scotia. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the course.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching BIOL/ENVS/GEOG / MARI 3633.03, "GIS in Ecology". The course will be offered in the Summer session, June 14-28, 2019, and will meet Mon-Sat, approx. 0835-1625 (and including five dayl-ong field trips, one day on a Sunday).  The part-time academic will be responsible for: instruction of GIS skills in the lab and field; the safety and well-being of students during the 5-days spent at the Harrison Lewis Centre, Port Joli, NS; designing and managing the field projects; introducing the field projects during the first week of course;  preparing a budget in consultation with the program director, and keeping field-related expenses within this budget; driving students in 7-passenger vehicles rented by the university; assisting students with their projects before, during and after the field trip; and evaluation of student work, including the project presentations. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before the course start date to prepare lab materials, coordinate demonstrators, design the field projects, prepare necessary materials, organize supplies, and arrange field logistics.

 
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: A graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience. Up-to-date (within last 3 years) Standard First Aid and CPR certification and driver's license valid in Nova Scotia. Preference will be given to candidates with coursework and research experience in landscape ecology and use of Geographic Information Systems to answer ecological questions.
