Celebrating Healthy Workplaces

Posted by Human Resources on October 1, 2018 in Human Resources

In celebration of October being National Healthy Workplace Month, we will share over the coming days summaries of the submissions for Dalhousie's Healthy Workplace Award.  The award recognizes departmental efforts across one or more of the seven dimensions of wellness.

The winner of this year's Award is the University Libraries.  Having shared the Healthy Workplace Award with Facilities Management in 2013, their efforts have evolved, with greater commitment and effort in place through standing committees for Health & Wellness and for Diversity & Inclusion and a Training & Development Working Group.

The selection committee, Dal's Healthy Workplace Collaborative, was very impressed with the array of initiatives in place. One of their own ran a sushi cooking class, they brought in a yoga instructor to do a series of classes, celebrated service milestones, organized cultural awareness events, developed their own posters to encourage colleagues to move more at work, created social opportunities for all staff from the five libraries to come together, used the ACHIEVE tool to support employee performance and success, surveyed everyone's learning needs, and tied numerous activities to generating donations for charities.

Watch for future posts that recognize the wellness efforts of other departments.
