Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (2 positions)

The School of Public Administration invites applications for two probationary tenure-track, tenure-track or tenured position in public administration at the rank of assistant or associate professor (dependent on qualifications and experience) commencing July 1, 2017. Our ideal candidates will have a career focus on public policy. We are seeking energetic faculty members who are enthusiastic about the professional preparation of those who want to serve the public, and are interested in research, theory, applied inquiry, and policy making and managing. We are particularly interested in candidates with research interests and teaching experience in the areas of public policy, organizational design, public management, governance and ethics. Other areas of specialization will be considered. Knowledge of all three levels of government is important. Advanced communication skills and demonstrated success as a team player and leader are valuable assets.

Candidates will have a PhD in public administration or management, or in a cognate discipline of the social sciences such as political science or sociology. The successful candidates must have a strong commitment to research and a demonstrated capacity to teach students at the master’s level. The successful candidates will be expected to teach in both the MPA program and the MPA (Management) program. The latter program, designed for full-time mid-career and senior public servants, is a blended graduate degree program combining e-learning with intensive classroom instruction. The successful candidates will also be expected to teach in the public administration component of the faculty’s Bachelor of Management program.

The School of Public Administration is a leader in research, teaching and professional development in governance, public policy and public sector management in Canada. Students enrolled in our Master of Public Administration (MPA) program are recent graduates from undergraduate programs in various disciplines. Our online MPA (Management) program is populated by public servants who want to make a difference through their work and are committed to education and professional preparation for work in the public service. Our administrative and research staff are proactive in their support for students and faculty. Our faculty are active researchers and, together with sessional instructors, deliver our graduate programs as well as the public administration component of the Bachelor of Management program.

In addition to our academic programs we offer our students a career enhancing professional development program. We contribute to the public service through outreach, sharing research, and joint projects. We receive support from the public service at all levels of government and offer our MPA students the chance at paid internships in the public sector.

The School of Public Administration is part of the Faculty of Management, which has a commitment to values-based management and interdisciplinary research and learning. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work with like-minded colleagues in the sister schools of Business, Information Management, and Resource and Environmental Studies within the Faculty.
