"Mysterious Barricades" ‑ A cross‑Canada concert for suicide prevention, awareness, and hope

Posted by Fountain School of Performing Arts, FASS on September 7, 2016 in Job Postings

The healing power of music will draw Canadians together in a remarkable event to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. From sunrise to sunset, a series of concerts will take place in 13 cities from coast to coast, livestreamed at each location and online at http://mysteriousbarricades.org.

The Halifax concert takes place at the Dalhousie Arts Centre at 7:30 am (yes, 7:30 in the morning!) in the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium and includes performances by Dalhousie University alumni, faculty, and friends. Live screening of all concerts will begin at 6:00 am in Arts Centre 406. Both the concert and live screenings are FREE – everyone welcome!

Hosted by actor and professor Rob McClure, the Dal event will open with a prayer and remarks by Geri Musqua-LeBlanc, First Nations Elder & Coordinator at Dal’s Elders-in-Residence program. Performers include alumni: Jeremy Dutcher, tenor and composer, Mark Lee, violin, Ben Marmen, cello; Fountain School of Performing Arts faculty members: Lynn Stodola, piano, Kerry Kavalo, viola, Marcia Swanston, mezzo soprano, and Chris Mitchell, saxophone; and Mitchell’s quartet members Dave Staples, piano, Jamie Gatti, bass, and David Burton, drums.

Free tickets to live events across Canada are available at Eventbrite. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mysterious-barricades-tickets-26453277465
