Limited-Term Appointment: Instructor in Costume Studies

The Fountain School of Performing Arts at Dalhousie University invites applications for one (1) full-time, one-year (12 months), limited-term Appointment in Costume Studies, at the rank of Instructor, commencing July 1, 2016.

The successful candidate will teach five (5) full credit classes or the equivalent including the following areas: historical and modern tailoring, historical and modern pattern design, cutting, and costume construction for Fountain School of Performing Arts main stage productions, and dancewear. There may be other related areas of teaching responsibility allocated from time to time, depending upon specific requirements. The successful candidate will also carry out necessary administration for the Costume Studies Programme.

Dalhousie University Costume Studies Programme is unique in North America and offers a four-year Honours BA in Theatre (Costume Studies). The Programme has a strong historical focus on both theatre and museum work, stressing both applied skills, and research and academic development.

Qualifications expected are a university degree, several years of experience as a professional tailor, and appropriate professional theatre wardrobe experience. Teaching experience at a post-secondary level considered an asset. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
