1) Lecturer for NURS2050.03 – Pharmacology and Nursing (Fall term of the academic year 2016-2017) 

Students are introduced to the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the major drug classes with an emphasis on application in the clinical setting. Interdisciplinary and collaborative aspects of the nurse's role in administering and monitoring medications and their effects are explored. Students demonstrate knowledge of dosage calculation, preparation and administration of medications. Legal, ethical and professional principles of accountability are examined.

This is a 3 credit hour course. Lectures of three hours are held weekly on Thursdays, 0835 – 1125, from September 6, 2016 until December 6, 2016. This contract runs from September 1, 2016 through December 23, 2016. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

2) Lecturer for NURS3330.03 – Fundamentals of Oncology Nursing (Fall term of the academic year 2016-2017) 

This nursing elective provides an introduction to oncology nursing. Beginning with a review of the physiology of the cancer cycle, the course considers cancer control related to: prevention, screening, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, supportive care/rehabilitation, palliative care. The focus of the course is to provide an opportunity for students to understand the cancer experience from the perspective of the patients and their families.

This is a 3 credit hour course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Mondays, 1435 - 1625, from September 6, 2016 until December 6, 2016. This contract runs from September 1, 2016 through December 23, 2016. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Development of teaching and learning activities related to the course

• Delivery and co-ordination of the course

• Assessment and evaluation of student learning

• Use of Brightspace for course delivery

• Responding to student queries about coursework

• Attending initial instruction with Instructional Learning Online services

• Participation in course discussions within the program

• Develop and administer examinations

• Submission of grades

• Follow up with students as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing, or related field, with relevant expertise and teaching experience. PhD preferred.

Students learn to integrate nursing knowledge and processes in the care of adults coping with illnesses. Emphasis is placed on the integration of primary healthcare concepts as related to alterations in health status. Students further develop knowledge and skills during clinical experiences in adult medical and surgical settings. 

This is a 3 credit hour course. Lectures of three hours are held weekly on Wednesdays, 1135 - 1325, from January 9, 2017 until April 10, 2017. 2) Lecturer for NURS3060.03 – Legal and Ethical Issues in Nursing Practice  (Winter term of the academic year 2016-2017) 

Students learn the understanding and application of ethical and legal concepts and theory within the dimensions of nursing practice. Students focus on decision-making processes and the impact of technology on nursing practice.

1) Lecturer for NURS5560.03 – Transformative and Innovative Health Systems Planning  (Fall term of the academic year 2016-2017)

The goal of this seminar course is to explore and discuss the structure of current health care systems in both developed and developing countries (particular focus on Canada) and the multiple factors that influence how health care is designed and delivered.

This is a 3 credit hour course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Tuesday, 1130 – 1430, from September 6, 2016 until December 6, 2016. This contract runs from September 1, 2016 through December 23, 2016. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.

2) Lecturer for NURS5732.03 – Pathophysiology for Advanced Nursing Practice (Fall term of the academic year 2016-2017) 

This course uses an evidence-based conceptual approach to critically and comprehensively examine pathophysiologic phenomena relevant to advanced nursing practice. The phenomena examined are commonly encountered in acute and long-term illnesses, are alterations in function involving multiple body systems, are seen across the boundaries of age, disease entities, and clinical states, and are those for which nurses have a major role in assessing, monitoring, managing and evaluating. Seminars are framed to systematically and critically examine the impact of these pathophysiologic phenomena on cell function, host defense responses, maintenance of vital functions, neuro-endocrine-immune responses in individuals and groups across the lifespan.

This is a 3 credit hour course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Wednesdays, 1435 – 1725, from September 6, 2016 until December 6, 2016. 3) Lecturer for NURS5735.03 – Pharmacotherapeutics for Nurse Practitioners (Fall term of the academic year 2016-2017)

The focus of this course will be on clinical applications of drug therapies relevant to nurse practitioner practice.  Students will be given the opportunity to gain knowledge in order to integrate pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic concepts for a chosen client population/discipline in their clinical setting and practicums.  Students will gain therapeutic knowledge that includes the mechanism of actions, usual dosages, absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination, and therapeutic use of medications. Principles of management for side effects and drug interactions of medications frequently encountered by specialty and primary health care nurse practitioners will be reviewed and applied.  Additionally, students will be provided with the opportunity to identify and utilize timely and appropriate drug information resources that are applicable to their daily practice. Legal and ethical responsibilities related to pharmacotherapeutic interventions are addressed.

This is a 3 credit hour course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Fridays, 1435 – 1725, from September 6, 2016 until December 6, 2016. 4) Lecturer for NURS5897.03 – Relational Practices with Families in Oncology and Palliative Care (Fall term of the academic year 2016-2017) 

The course provides graduate students in five disciplines (medicine, nursing, psychology, social work, spiritual care) with opportunity to explore the interprofessional care of families experiencing cancer along the illness trajectory from diagnosis through to bereavement or long term survivorship.  Key themes that will be addressed include: family theory, models of family and couple counselling/ therapy, family assessment, therapeutic conversations and interventions. 

This is a 3 credit hour distance course. The contract runs from September 1, 2016 through December 23, 2016. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.

This course will introduce all nurse practitioner students to a general healthcare focus of populations across the lifespan and in multiple clinical settings. This will consist of theories, terminology, point-of-care technology, assessment, diagnosis and treatment directed towards a population of all ages. Theories of family, change and adult learning will be presented to guide the nurse practitioner student in the development of a holistic plan of care for health promotion and disease prevention, health maintenance, health assessment, and acute and chronic disease management.

This is a 3 credit hour course consisting of 3 lecture hours per week on Fridays, from 0835 – 1125, January 9, 2017 until April 10, 2017. This contract runs from January 1, 2017 through April 30, 2017. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.

2. Lecturer for NURS5734.03 – Principles of Pharmacotherapy for Nurse Practitioners (Winter term of the academic year 2016-2017)

This course focuses on core principles of pharmacotherapy relevant to all nurse practitioner practice. Pharmacotherapeutic problem solving approaches will be introduced and applied throughout the course. Effective and strategic use of drug and therapeutic information resources will be emphasized. Relevant issues to pharmacotherapeutic policy will be addressed. Principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics will be introduced and integrated throughout therapeutic content areas. Legal and ethical responsibilities related to prescriptive authority and pharmacotherapeutic interventions will be addressed.
