IDHS 3000   Contemporary Issues in Food Studies
Credit Hours: 3 - Summer Term 2016

This course introduces students to the emerging interdisciplinary field of food studies. Whereas older academic approaches to food focused on consumption or production within a scientific paradigm, this course will critically consider the health implications of local food issues through a case-based curriculum using diverse disciplinary, holistic, and systemic perspectives.

Format: Weekly on-line lecture | seminar, May 2 to June 10, 2016

Work Assignment: The successful applicant is responsible for all aspects of teaching, grading and administration of the class including planning and directing course-based activities, marking assignments and providing support to the students as required during the applicable Summer Term.

Requirements of Position: Graduate degree in Health Promotion with demonstrated teaching ability preferred.

IDHS 3100   Contemporary Issues in Rural Health
Credit Hours: 3 – Summer Term 2016

This course introduces students to the emerging interdisciplinary study of health and health care delivery in rural environments, IDHS 3100 offers an overview of health issues for various groups in rural areas, focusing on Nova Scotia, Canadian, and some international examples using a social determinants of health perspective. Other factors that affect rural health, such as policy and politics, community development, culture, human resources, and health services, will also be addressed.

Format: Weekly on-line lecture | seminar, June 2 to July 15, 2016
