Dal Aggies are South Africa Bound for a Taste of the Wild

Posted by Faculty of Agriculture on April 13, 2016 in General Announcements

A group of 13 Animal Science & Pre-veterinary students from Dalhousie's Agricultural campus are taking part in Dalhousie's first ever African Wildlife Ecology (AWE) course!

AWE is an extensive 3 week class in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, which takes place in June 2016. This opportunity will give students hands-on experience with new techniques for recording data, expand their general experience in the Animal Science & Pre-Veterinary fields, give them a better understanding of wild animals in their natural habitats, learn about the conservation of wildlife and allow them to experience a trip of a lifetime.

Students will gain hands-on experience through bird netting and tagging, live trapping, camera trapping and tracking cheetahs! Students will interact with a variety of animals, such as elephants, giraffes, water buffalos, lions, cheetahs, leopards, wildebeests, impalas, zebras, ostriches and other native rodents and birds.

To help them get there, they have launched a crowdfunding campaign and are looking for your support. To learn more or to donate, please visit projectdal.ca. You can also help by sharing the link on Facebook & Twitter.

The students from AWE thank you for your help and support.
