POSITION: Part-Time Academic, MUSC 1020.03 Listening to Classical Music, Summer 2016 (May 9 – 31, 2016)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts

PAY RATE: As per CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of one section of MUSC 1020.03, Listening to Classical Music, from May 9 – 31, 2016. The instructor is required to provide a Method of Assessment and course outline and to conduct end of term student ratings/evaluations of instruction. This position reports to the FSPA Director.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Post-graduate education in music, either complete or in progress. Proven experience in the teaching of music appreciation at the university level, the ability to communicate successfully in large class situations, the ability to assess and critique written essay submission in a wide variety of musical and interdisciplinary topics, and the ability to supervise teaching assistants. Computer literacy is essential.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of one section of MUSC 2007.06, Guitar History and Techniques, from May 9 to June 24, 2016. The candidate will work closely with instructors of other sections of this class to coordinate curriculum requirements. The Instructor is required to provide a Method of Assessment and course outline and to conduct end of term student ratings/evaluations of instruction. This position reports to the FSPA Director.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music or its equivalent. Proven experience in the teaching of guitar – university teaching experience preferred. Significant knowledge of guitar history and repertoire. Computer literacy is essential.

Evidence of successful university-level teaching, preferably in the area of music and culture.
