POSITION: PART-TIME OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY INSTRUCTORS: 2016     

January 4 - June 30, 2016 (3 sessions X 8 weeks each):

These positions will be responsible for tutoring groups of 2-3 students in the following courses:
OCCU 6111 Fieldwork III Jan-Feb (1 position, 80 hours)
OCCU 6222 Fieldwork IV Mar-Apr (1 position, 80 hours)
OCCU 5222 Fieldwork lI May-Jun (1 position, 80 hours)

There will be a paid orientation of approximately 20 hours in December 2015 for OCCU 6111. If necessary, it will also be required for OCCU 6222 and OCCU 5222 at later dates.

PAY RATE: According to the CUPE Collective Agreement

WORK ASSIGNMENT: Under the guidance of the Course Professor the Instructor will tutor and evaluate a group of students using problem and case-based learning in Occupational Therapy.   The Instructor may be required to attend different on-site locations on alternative days with advanced notice. Off-site preparation, marking and/or office hours may also be required. Instructors are required to attend orientation sessions prior to the academic term (to be scheduled).

REQUIREMENTS: The candidate must be a qualified OT who is currently registered in Nova Scotia. Recent clinical experience in a directly relevant setting is essential. A Master’s degree is preferred but we will give consideration to those with equivalent qualification.

Essential experience and skills:

Demonstrated confidence and recent experience:

  • identifying worksite and worker ergonomic risk factors
  • providing 1:1 work habits coaching/on-site job coaching with workers
  • performing job site/physical demands analyses and preparing related documentation

Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential as are demonstrated time management skills.

In addition to the above, preference will be given to recent experience conducting: 

·        group psychoeducational sessions
·        behavior change interventions
·        functional abilities evaluations
·        cognitive functional demands analysis
·        pre-employment assessment
·        RTW planning/coordination and/or
·        supervision of students in a practice setting.

Individual must have experience in health promotion and injury prevention. Current registration as a licensed occupational therapist required.
