Position: Research Assistant position (Part time, 34 weeks, total of 340 hours)
Project Start & End Dates: November 2015 to June 2016

Hourly Pay Rate: $20 per hour, plus vacation pay
Research Project Description: The project titled Feasibility of having a volunteer/healthcare provider navigation partnership to support frail rural-dwelling older adults in Nova Scotia is a one-year research project that will conduct non-research activities in Nova Scotia. The goal for the project is to explore whether an intervention being piloted in British Columbia that creates volunteer and healthcare provider partnerships to provide chronic illness navigation for frail older adults living with life-limiting chronic illness would fit the needs of Nova Scotians.
To accomplish this goal three objectives were identified.
Objective 1) Engage health system representatives and researchers;
Objective 2) Gather and synthesize information/evidence;
Objective 3) Engage students from the health professions in the research project.
This project is funded by Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF)
Duties & Responsibilities: The research assistant will be assisting the principal investigator (Dr. Grace Warner) in conducting the following activities:
Searching the research literature to identify relevant scholarly articles and the Internet to identify relevant policies on health provider/volunteer partnerships; and synthesizing the evidence into reports and scholarly reviews;
Organizing meetings with health system partners to discuss identified topics relevant to implementing the proposed intervention;
Piloting and revising tools for gathering information on health system barriers and facilitators to adopting the intervention;
Organizing two community cafés to share findings from the BC pilot study.
Submitting a research proposal.
Qualifications: Masters student in a health related field with excellent organizational skills and experience coordinating research projects. Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written). Preference for someone who has an interest and understanding of issues related to palliative care.
