Research Laboratory Technologist (Temporary)

Start date: Immediate
Salary: Temporary position, grant-paid through Dalhousie University, hourly pay rate range $19- $24 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Position Scope:

The Canadian Center for Vaccinology in Halifax is seeking a Laboratory Technologist. The Laboratory Technologist reports to the Laboratory Manager and is responsible for, but not limited to, performing various lab assays and procedures with knowledge and application of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) as necessary.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include working closely with the Laboratory Manager, and carrying out a range of lab assays including, but not limited to PCR, ELISA, and microimmunassays. Perform, calculate and check assays, interpret and report data, for clinical or non-clinical CTRC research studies, receive and process specimens according to study protocols, maintain specimen logs and databases, prepare specimens and documentation for shipping, ship specimens as per guidelines, operate and maintain lab equipment according to protocols, collect specimens from hospital labs as scheduled, monitor stocks of supplies and reagents for reordering and disposal purposes, perform laboratory promotional duties as requested and other duties pertaining to the efficient functioning of the laboratory as required. Perform other duties and general administrative laboratory support as required. On the job training will be provided for study specific skill requirements.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have 3-5 years of related work experience. Qualified applicants will possess a Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field (Microbiology Biology, Science).  The successful candidate will possess knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel); Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) as appropriate. The incumbent must have effective communication skills -both oral and written, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, a high level of accuracy, effective organizational skills, stress/time management skills, multi-tasking and excellent interpersonal skills with a positive, can-do attitude.

Term:

This is a grant-paid, temporary casual position with fluctuating hours, with a pay range of $19 - $24 per hour, depending on experience.
