Athletics and Recreational Services, a department within Student Services, encompasses the Dalplex athletic facility (which serves Dalhousie students and staff as well as the local community), varsity athletics, and intramurals and clubs.
   
Reporting to the Supervisor, Support Services, this position will reserve Dalhousie’s athletic facilities, and assist with facility set ups, facility and equipment maintenance, pool chemistry and related clerical duties in support of our student and member programs and services for the department of Athletics and Recreation. See schedule below the four week rotation shifts.

Key Responsibilities:
• Help oversee and carry out the daily facility services and operations of Dalplex, Studley Gymnasium and Dance Studio, Sexton Gymnasium Facilities and Wickwire Field and off site facilities, as required. Includes physical and technical facility and equipment handling.
• Work alongside and lead causal, student Facility Services Staff in the completion of assigned responsibilities to ensure all daily and special event related tasks are carried out to a high standard.
• Monitor the athletic facilities to ensure appropriate and safe use of all activity areas and equipment and general security of the facilities.
• Monitor and assist in all technical equipment requirements and services for daily and special events
• Promote a culture of safety by immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following university procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
• Working with the Supervisor of Support Services, be part of the hiring and training team for all support services casual staff including when applicable completion of  time sheets and submitting to payroll.
• Carry out prescribed daily/weekly/monthly maintenance and safety audits of exercise, sport and related facility equipment and infrastructure.
• Following established procedures and guidelines, reserve facilities, complete sales of Sexton Gymnasium memberships and locker rentals and complete program registrations in the department’s recreation management software program(s)
• Reserve the athletic facilities for internal and external clients. Ensure all appropriate fees and documentation process are followed.
• Provide detailed information to all clients on the use of the reserved facilities(s); the terms of their membership and locker rental.
• Based out of Sexton Gymnasium and Dalplex, as required, coordinate the office supplies for printing, photocopying, mail, phone support.

Qualifications:
Completion of post-secondary diploma in recreation management or recreation leadership along with one to three years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Completion of First Aid/CPR training is required. A Certified Pool Operators course and experience working in an athletic facility and customer service would be an asset. Must have a valid driver’s license. Work involves above average physical effort on a regular basis with lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.

Salary Range:  $30,786 - $37,544 (32.5 hours per week) (Technician T-5)
This position has a provisional classification. The Compensation and Job Evaluation Unit will initiate a formal classification process in approximately six months.
This position is part of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union Local 77 (NSGEU).
