POSITION:                PART-TIME ACADEMIC INSTRUCTOR
TERM:                         September 10, 2015 – December 8, 2015/ January 4, 2016 – April 6, 2016
PAY RATE:                 According To CUPE Collective Agreement
 
WORK ASSIGNMENT:  The part-time academic instructor will be responsible for teaching NURS4250.03 – Community Health Assessment during the Fall term and NURS4260.03 – Community Development and Advocacy during the Winter term of the academic year 2015-2016.
 
Course Description for N4250:
The focus of this course is on the integration of community assessment theory and nursing practice in health promotion and illness prevention. Primary health care and population-focused health strategies are used as students collaborate with individuals, families, groups, communities and other health care professionals in working toward community health goals. Students apply critical thinking in assessing needs and strengths for community development in a variety of
community settings.
 
Course Description for N4260:
This course builds on the content of N4250. The focus is on critical thinking, interventions, and the evaluation of community health nursing strategies with client groups and communities. Community development is used as a strategy to put primary health care principles into nursing practice. Students are encouraged to work with communities using an empowerment and advocacy approach. Current local, national and international health issues are explored. Clinical experience in a variety of community settings allows students to practice nursing in a reflective manner to improve the health of the community as a whole.
Both are 3 credit hour courses. This contract runs from September 1, 2015 through April 30, 2016. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Development of teaching and learning activities related to the course
·         Delivery and co-ordination of the course
·         Assessment and evaluation of student learning
·         Use of BbLearn for course delivery
·         Responding to student queries about coursework
·         Attending initial instruction with Instructional Learning Online services
·         Participation in course discussions within the program
·         Develop and administer examinations
·         Submission of grades
·         Follow up with students as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing, or related field, with relevant expertise and teaching experience. PhD preferred.
