The Institute for Research Materials announces new director

Posted by Dalhousie Research Services on June 5, 2015 in General Announcements

On behalf of the Council of Deans of the Institute for Research in Materials (IRM), I am delighted to announce that Dr. Daniel Boyd has been appointed as the new director of IRM, beginning July 1, 2015. Dr. Boyd is an associate professor in the Department of Applied Oral Sciences and the School for Biomedical Engineering. He has been actively involved in IRM since his arrival at Dalhousie and has served on the IRM Advisory Committee for a number of years. His research is on the development of novel biomaterials for clinical application, and he has an outstanding track record of publication, grant success, and knowledge translation. Dr. Boyd is keen to begin the planning process for the next phase of IRM's existence. ‎

I would also like to recognize the contributions of the outgoing director, Dr. Richard Dunlap, who has served the Institute diligently since 2009. Rich oversaw a number of IRM initiatives during his time as director, including relocation of the IRM offices to new premises at the corner of Coburg and Oxford, organization of the 10th anniversary symposium in 2012, establishment of an external advisory board, and development of a new undergraduate certificate in materials science, as well as maintaining prudent management of the IRM's budget and the Facility for Materials Characterization. Thanks Rich for your dedication to IRM over the last 7 years!
