POSITION: Part-Time Academic - THEA 1000.06 Introduction to Theatre (September 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of THEA 1000.06, Introduction to Theatre, from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016, including the preparation of assignments and supervision of Teaching Assistants.    
This class fulfills the writing requirement for the BA degree; therefore, the Instructor will be responsible for instruction in writing as well as in dramatic literature.
This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:    PhD completed or near completion (ABD) in Theatre, Drama or related discipline. Previous experience in teaching at a university level is essential, as is evidence of strong teaching effectiveness. Ability to teach and coordinate writing instruction for a large class (up to 150 students), supervising one or more teaching assistants, is necessary.

The candidate will work closely with teaching staff, using a syllabus common across multiple sections of the course, and must also supervise the work of one Marker.
This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:    BA, BFA or equivalent in Theatre (Acting) in addition to professional acting experience. Previous experience in teaching acting at a university level is essential, as is evidence of strong teaching effectiveness. Familiarity with the FSPA Acting Program at Dalhousie University is considered an asset.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of the class MUSC 2175.03X/Y, Lyric Diction, taught once weekly over two semesters from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016.
The successful candidate will work in consultation and coordination with the Voice Coordinator. Duties also include: provision of a Method of Assessment and course outline; grade submission as per department guidelines; distribution of end of term student ratings/evaluations of instruction.
This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:    Minimum of a MMus in either Vocal Performance/Pedagogy or Collaborative Piano, with a proven working knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet and its application to English, German, French, Italian and Latin in a lyrical context. Familiarity with standard vocal repertoire, a functioning knowledge of German, French and Italian, and experience teaching lyric diction at the university level is preferred. The candidate must also possess basic computer skills.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Proven successful training and commercial experience in the professional field of sound recording, including the recording of classical music; demonstrated pedagogical skills in the training of music students and non-majors in the technological and musical aspects of sound recording. As the class will be taught partially off-site at a professional studio location, prospective applicants must have access to such a facility.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of one section of MUSC 3284.03, Tonal Counterpoint, from January 1 to April 30, 2016. The candidate will work closely with teaching staff in the theory area in order to coordinate curriculum requirements. The instructor is required to provide a Method of Assessment and course outline and to announce end of term student ratings/evaluations of instruction.
This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:    Minimum of a MA or MMUS or its equivalent in Music, with special training and/or significant experience in the teaching of music theory; computer literacy.

POSITION: Part-Time Academic - MUSC 3210.06: Composition I and 4210.06: Composition II (September 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016)

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic is required to teach MUSC 3210.06: Composition I and/or MUSC 4210.06: Composition II, from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016.
The successful candidate will work in consultation and coordination with the full-time Composition professor.
Duties include but are not limited to: teaching XX students one-on-one 1-hour/weekly composition lessons; provision of a Method of Assessment and course outline; adjudication of final recital; grade submission as per School guidelines; announcement of end of term student ratings/evaluations of instruction. There is also the possibility to attend the group composers’ class.
This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:    Master of Music (MMus) or equivalent in artistic experience in the field of instrumental concert music; significant professional experience as a composer; proven successful pedagogical experience as a composition teacher; excellent communication skills; computer literacy.
