WORK ASSIGNMENT: A Part-Time Academic is required to teach Applied Study in Voice from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016. The successful candidate will work in consultation and coordination with the voice area coordinator.
Duties include, but are not limited to: teaching individual voice lessons and a performance class weekly; provision of a Method of Assessment and course outline; adjudication of mid-term and final voice juries and recitals; coordination of student ensemble requirements; grade submission as per department guidelines; announcement of end of term student ratings/evaluations of instruction. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:    Minimum of a MMus or its equivalent in Vocal Performance and/or Pedagogy; significant professional experience in performance; proven successful pedagogical experience as a voice teacher; excellent communication skills; computer literacy.

The instructor must implement approved curriculum in this area, and in all aspects of the classes work collaboratively with other keyboard skills instructors and full-time faculty. The instructor is required to provide a Method of Assessment and course outline and to announce end of term student ratings/evaluations of instruction. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

POSITION: Part-Time Academic - MUSC 1081.03: Voice Clinic for the Theatre II (January 1 – April 30, 2016)

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic is required to teach one half-credit class MUSC 1081.03: Voice Clinic for the Theatre II during the winter term, January 1 to April 30, 2016. This class is offered exclusively to students in the third year of the Acting Program. This position will take responsibility for the teaching and grading of this class. Duties will include teaching 1.5 hours/week of ensemble singing and coaching bi-weekly half-hour individual tutorials for each student in the class. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:    A minimum of a BA or BMus or its equivalent in Vocal Performance and/or Pedagogy; appropriate professional experience; proven successful experience of teaching the basic principles of group singing as applicable to the actors' ensemble; a strong knowledge of varied repertoire for choral/ensemble instruction. Knowledge of the Musical Theatre repertoire would be an asset when coaching the individual tutorial sessions. Keyboard facility and computer literacy are essential.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching a module on movement for actors as a part of THEA 4840.06 Advanced Performance Techniques class from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016. The instructor will be responsible to prepare and grade all assignments in this module. This course is an integral part of the Acting Program and comes at the end of a three-year cycle. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:     BA or BFA, plus specialization in teaching creative and period movement to actors in a classical actor training program. Evidence of strong teaching effectiveness is essential, as is professional performance experience. Familiarity with Dalhousie University Acting Program is considered an asset.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching a module on stage management as a part of THEA 1050.06 Theatre Organization & Stagecraft, THEA 2070.06 Performance Technology I and 3070.06 Performance Technology II, from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016. The instructor works closely with the student stage management team, Fountain School of Performing Arts (FSPA) faculty and staff during rehearsals and the run of the FSPA main stage productions (supervising, checking and maintain proper professional CAEA standards and practices, as well as marking student work). This is an hourly paid teaching position for a maximum of 100 hours in an academic year. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:     BA in Theatre, Drama or equivalent, with professional accreditation in the area of expertise.

POSITION: Part-Time Academic - Director – Dalhousie University Chorus (September 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts    

PAY RATE: As per CUPE Collective Agreement    

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be required to direct the Dalhousie University Chorus from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016. Rehearsals are held weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00-6:30 pm, resulting in a public performance each term.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: organization of the participants; scheduling, planning and preparation of rehearsals and concerts; overseeing the maintenance and organization of scores used by the ensemble; provision of a Method of Assessment and distribution of student evaluation forms.
The choir director must coordinate with the Associate Director of Productions and the productions administrator regarding selection of concert repertoire within the context of developing the School’s multi-year plan.
This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:    Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Music and successful professional experience as a choral director; excellent organizational and communication skills; computer literacy.

POSITION: Part-Time Academic - Director – Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra (September 1, 2015 – April 30, 2016)

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Fountain School of Performing Arts

WORK ASSIGNMENT: This Part-Time Academic will be required to direct the Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016. Weekly 3-hour rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings, normally resulting in one or more public performances each term including: 1. Fall term – orchestra only; 2. Winter term – Concerto Night (learning and rehearsing 10-13 movements and a new student composition); 3. Winter term – potentially also a concert with the Dalhousie Chorus.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: organization of the membership; scheduling, planning and preparation of rehearsals and concerts; overseeing the maintenance of the orchestra library; provision of a Method of Assessment and distribution of student evaluation forms.
The orchestra conductor must be available to consult with the directors of the Dalhousie Wind Ensemble and Dalhousie Jazz Ensemble regarding ensemble auditions and optimal placement of students. He/she must also coordinate with the Associate Director of Productions and the productions administrator regarding selection of concert repertoire within the context of developing the School’s multi-year plan.
This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.
