Media Highlight: Nigel Champion, university student, conducts sun exposure study

Posted by Communications and Marketing on April 2, 2015 in Media Highlights

Posted March 31 by CBC:

A university student from P.E.I. has conducted a pilot study on attitudes toward sun exposure.

Nigel Champion created the study last summer as a volunteer project for the Canadian Cancer Society.

He became interested in the topic when he heard reports about high melanoma rates on P.E.I., especially in men.

Champion talked to about 100 people on public beaches across the Island about their use of sunscreen. He wanted to see if there was a difference between the attitudes of Islanders and beachgoers from out of province.

Champion was also looking for trends in different age groups and what motivated people to wear sunscreen.
