13‑18 Year Old Teens with Chronic Pain Needed for Research Study

Posted by Psychiatry on February 17, 2015 in General Announcements

Do you know a teen (13-18) with unexplained chronic pain? Dr. David Lovas with the Department of Psychiatry is looking for teens between the ages of 13-18 who experience unexplained chronic pain at least once a week for 3 months to participate in a research study. The study explores the use of a mindfulness-based group intervention for teens with chronic pain.

Participation is simple and involves a visit to the IWK Health Centre to complete questionnaires on pain and take part in other painless biological measures of stress. In addition, teens will have the option of participating in the mindfulness-based intervention at a later date. This intervention will help teens learn how to better cope with their pain, thereby potentially reducing symptoms.

If you have a child in this age range or know someone who might be interested, please contact Dr. Lovas’ Research Assistant, Ashley, at 470-7040 or iwkmindfulnessstudy@gmail.com. She would be happy to provide you with more information about the study.
